Group Session: Unmissable AI Tech (MDC)
Keep your finger on the pulse. What tech YOU should be aware of.
This article stems from the August session of the Media Data Collaborative. You can see the full session below. Shout out to all of our friends/data geniuses in attendance: Kenny Katzgrau, Jason Yee, David LaFontaine, Will Hill, Jacob Fogg, Marta Loeb, Abhinav Shankar, Melissa Chowning, Lori Silverstein!
Tech has always moved fast, but it feels like the last 2 years has been breaking records.
With a new “must-see” tool coming out every other day, it’s easy to ignore the tidal wave altogether.
We had a conversation with the Media Data Collaborative earlier this month about what they saw as must-see tech, specifically in the publishing space.
This is what they are seeing. Maybe you’ll see some applicability for your organization!
Useful for summarizing local coverage, like school board meetings or others. Takes the key points of those meetings, summarizes them, and creates the baseline for a story.
In terms of audience engagement, it enables reporters to be “multiple places at once” and get the inside scoop from meetings and town halls across the city in a way that would have taken too much time in the past.
An AI scheduling tool. CC Clara on an email and have her set up meetings with people. She can look at calendars, offer up times in specific timezones, and coordinate times between multiple people. Automagically.
Essentially manages your “robots.txt” file to tell AI bots not to look at your content.
If a bot wants access to your data, TollBit allows you to monetize your data and facilitate licensing deals.
Moderate audio, images, and text automatically with a very high degree of accuracy.
Core Takeaway
What was the core takeaway in the midst of all these tools? The golden nugget?
Don’t just implement.
AI is all the hype right now, but it’s not a silver bullet.
Look at your organization, your vision, and how these tools fit into your big-picture long-term strategy.
Only then can you make educated decisions on what to implement.
